ARTIFACTS 2022-2023
Grade 5/6 Lessons
Here's some of my most recent teaching experiences I have had during my fall 2022 practicum!

NUMBER SENSE BOOK

WINTER SCENE

PHASES OF THE MOON
Number Sense Book
I created this book with the specific goal of helping a group of students who have learning disabilities understand number sense concepts. I wanted the tool to be relevant, fun, and interactive!
Mixed Media Winter Scene
I found this mixed media winter scene and knew the grade 5/6 students would love it! I created a tutorial on how students can create it and broke it down step-by-step! It was difficult to have this group of students work through creating this multistep piece of artwork, but the students seemed to enjoy this nevertheless!
The Phases of the Moon (Made with Oreos!)
I got to try out an idea that my AT had done before and create a Phases of the Moon Oreo lesson! Essentially, I taught students about the phases of the moon and then walked the class through creating their own replica of the phases using Oreos. The students enjoyed mixing science with Oreos!
ARTIFACTS 2020-2021
Here are some of my favourite lessons:
The focus for this particular placement was to serve students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. A portion of this placement was virtual, and another part of it was in person teaching a small group of students.

LETTER TOOLKIT (NOVEMBER 2020)
All of the items young grade two readers need to explore! This was a simple book created to meet the needs of a grade 2 student I was tutoring. It went through each letter, it covered different reading strategies, and a hardcopy was mailed for the student to follow along with it.
Commitment to Students and Student Learning
This tutoring position gave me, as the educator, the ability to truly look at what this individual student's strengths in learning are and what they would benefit from learning next.
MINECRAFT MATHEMATICS (DECEMBER 2020)
Grade 2: Mathematics
In an interactive slideshow format, this Minecraft Math lesson dealt with how to add and subtract using a variety of different tools. Also, it gave grade two students a chance to learn mathematical terms that are used regular, everyday speech.
PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
Students learn best if the content is of interest to them. With this theory in mind, I created this Minecraft Mathematics lesson alongside Bradley Nelles for a specific grade 2 student. We found that the student was very engaged, and able to relate to the content.

YOGA AND EMOTIONS! (DECEMBER 2020)
This was an interactive powerpoint used to give a grade two student I tutored an opportunity to learn how to identify their own emotions and how to cope with them. It involved yoga, games, and drawing!
All of these aspects of this lesson plan promoted Language Arts, Literacy, and Physical Education skills.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
This was created in collaboration with another teaching candidate, Bradley Nelles. We created this for a specific student in min, but we had the hope of sharing this with other teaching candidates to use in the future.

PRACTICUM PLAN

CROSS CURRICULAR DRAMA AND LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON PLAN
Homeschool Position (December 2020)
I began to work for a homeschool and I would have been replacing the previous educator. I wanted to get a good sense of what the parents thought was important that the previous educator did (i.e. traditions, methods of contact) and if there was anything I could do in the future differently. I wanted to make the transition easy for both the students and their families.
LEADERSHIP IN LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Projected Practicum Outline
As of November 2020, Ontario was still in a state of emergency with COVID-19 and we were unable to go out on regular practicum. Fortunately, this meant that the University of Windsor was willing to allow us to serve our community in alternative ways during the course of practicum and learn more about teaching through different methods. I created a plan to do free-virtual tutoring, a timetable of how to use my hours, and I continuously looked for new ways to challenge myself. This in turn developed my initiative, my ability to motivate myself, time to address any of my own areas for improvement, and time to be creative.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
Sample Coursework (October 2020)
Our group decided to do a lesson plan for grade six students that taught about First Nations and used drama to enhance the learning experience. Upon learning more in classes and from feedback, I would have rearranged this lesson plan slightly so that students learn more about First Nations peoples in the middle as opposed to the end. However, all students learn differently and other educators may adapt this lesson plan in a way that suits their students individual needs.
PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE

THE HONEST REVIEW OF BOOKS- AS TOLD BY STUDENTS (DECEMBER 2020)
I wanted to give my students a voice to share what books they liked and what they learned from the material we read together. The intention was to give students meaningful ways to write, and to give fellow educators a place to see good literature that students enjoy.
ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
This facebook site became an outlet where educators would share other books that their students have enjoyed, and I would in turn learn from them as well.
CODE BREAKER (BRIAN ASPINALL)
An Educational Tool
I read this book over the course of my time in practicum in December 2020. I wanted to get a better sense as to how to use coding in the classroom and what the benefits are.
ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
I continue to reference and use this book, along with other book by Brian Aspinall, to aid me in learning more about teaching coding.

REFLECTIVE ASSIGNMENT
"Controversy with IQ Tests"
In September 2020, I reflected on the controversy with IQ tests after learning about the potential controversies in class and reflecting on previous lectures at the University.
ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
This reflective assignment was able to help me create a better teaching philosophy as I had created my own opinion of such a common practice used in education.
CROSS-CURRICULAR (DANCE AND LANGUAGE ARTS)
Lesson Plan for a Dance and Language Arts Lesson
I created, with the help of a group of people, a cross-curricular lesson for a grade six students.
